Biography

John McMurtery, flutist, earned a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree from The Juilliard School, having received an M.M. from Rutgers University and a B.M. from Central Washington University. McMurtery performs with Continuum, the Fountain Chamber Music Society, Luna Nova, the Manhattan Chamber Orchestra, UpTown Flutes, and The Society for Chromatic Art. Dedicated to enriching the contemporary flute repertoire, he has commissioned and premiered works by Jackson Hill, James Romig, Nicola Sani, and Edward Taylor. He has been heard at several summer music festivals, including Spoleto (Italy), Domaine Forget, and Icicle Creek, and has recorded for the Naxos, Helicon, and Kleos labels. Mr. McMurtery is a member of the music theory and history faculty at Westminster Conservatory of Rider University.
